The cheonbuin, the heavenly seal, is the seal that the Samguk Yusa says Hwanung, son of the sky god Hwanin, carried when he descended to Mount Taebaek with three seals to govern the world. In the Dangun foundation myth Hwanung established a sacred city at the summit, legislated for the people, and accepted the prayers of a bear and a tiger who wished to become human; the bear that endured the ordeal of a hundred days in a cave became the woman Ungnyeo, whose son Dangun founded the first Korean kingdom, Gojoseon.
