Crown of Saint Stephen
The Holy Crown of Hungary, identified with the crown of the first king Saint Stephen I (ruled 1000-1038), is a circlet of gold hung with enamelled plaques, pearls and gemstones, with a distinctive cross set at an angle on top. Scholars date the surviving bands and figures to the eleventh and twelfth centuries, and the crown as it exists today was almost certainly assembled from older parts for later coronations, so its precise age and original form are still debated.
