Fujara
The fujara is a very long overtone flute of the Slovak shepherds, the central instrument of the Podpoľanie region, made from elder, maple or ash wood and reaching 160 to 200 centimetres in length, with a short side tube that carries the wind to the main bore. It has only three finger holes, yet a skilled player produces a low, humming bass and high, crying overtones by overblowing, and the traditional repertoire imitates the gurgle of springs, the wind and long pastoral calls.
