The geobukseon, the turtle ship, is the armoured warship that Admiral Yi Sun-sin built for the Korean fleet in the 1590s to repel the Japanese invasions of the Imjin War, and it is the most celebrated naval vessel in Korean history. The ship was roofed with an iron-studded shell that shed fire arrows and repelled boarding parties, and it was fitted with cannon that could be fired from the sides while the deck stayed protected.
