Golden Fleece
The golden fleece of the winged ram that carried Phrixus and Helle to Colchis, where Phrixus sacrificed the ram and hung its fleece in the grove of Ares under a sleepless dragon's guard. Jason and the Argonauts sailed the Argo to retrieve it, and the quest, with its trials set by King Aeetes, is the central adventure of the Argonaut cycle. The fleece stands for the distant prize that turns a voyage into a legend, and the dragon that guarded it became one of the best-known monsters of Greek myth.
