The monstrous cat of the Norwegian folktale collected by Asbjornsen and Moe, in which a traveller brings his cat to a Dovrefjell farm whose Christmas feast is ruined by trolls every year. When the trolls return, the cat seizes the troll wife in the dark and is taken for an enormous bear, and the trolls flee, calling home their warning that the great cat is still alive and the farm is lost to them. The tale is usually read as a story of a clever animal that turns the trolls' own fear against them.
