Guan Dao
The guan dao is the heavy curved-blade polearm historically associated with Guan Yu, the great general of the Three Kingdoms period who was deified as the god of war and of righteousness, and its most famous example is the Green Dragon Crescent Blade. In Romance of the Three Kingdoms Guan Yu carries the enormous weapon, and in legend the blade was so heavy that only he could wield it; temples honouring him display a ceremonial guan dao in his image, and the weapon became a standard of the military temples and of martial artists.
