Hringhorni is the greatest of all ships, the vessel on which the gods laid the body of Baldr the Beautiful after his death by the mistletoe dart. When the gods tried to launch Hringhorni for the funeral, the ship was so heavy that no god or giant could move it, until the giantess Hyrrokkin came riding on a wolf and sent the vessel sliding into the sea with a single shove, the earth shaking with the force. The funeral of Baldr, with the pyre lit on the ship, the ring Draupnir laid upon it, and the dwarf Litr cast into the flames, is one of the most famous scenes in the Prose Edda. The name is s
