Inukshuk
The inuksuk, often spelled inukshuk, is a figure of stacked stones built by the Inuit and other Arctic peoples as a landmark in landscapes where trees offer no bearings; the Inuktitut name means 'something that acts in the capacity of a human'. Inuksuit marked travel routes, safe crossings, good hunting and fishing places, food caches and camps, and their shapes could carry messages, from the direction to point to a warning of danger.
