Yule Goat
The Yule goat (julbock), a goat figure of straw bound with red ribbon, made in Sweden at Christmas. The straw goat descends from older beliefs around Thor's goats and the 'julbock' who once brought the Christmas gifts before the tree took the role. Today the most famous example is the giant Gävle goat, erected and burned each December. In older custom the julbock walked the house at Christmastime, demanding drink and carrying the Christmas presents, and a man dressed as the goat was one of the stock figures of the old rural Christmas. The straw goat, made of bound and tied straw with red ribbo
