Kastane Sword
The kastane is the traditional ceremonial sword of the Kandyan kingdom of Sri Lanka, worn at court as a mark of office and carried in procession, and it is one of the most characteristic creations of Sinhalese metalwork. Its signature feature is the hilt, whose pommel is carved as the head of a lion, the symbol of the Sinhalese people, often in ivory, horn or silver, with the guard and quillons finished with makara heads and scrollwork; the blade itself was frequently a European hanger or cuttoe blade imported by the Dutch and riveted into the local hilt.
