Kaupaloki
Kaupaloki, the 'trade-luck stave', is an Icelandic magical sign recorded in the Huld manuscript, compiled by Geir Vigfússon at Akureyri in 1860, and drawn for success in buying and selling. Merchants and farmers drew or carved the stave so that bargains would turn in their favour, a piece of practical magic in a seafaring and trading society where a fair deal was a matter of survival. It belongs to the group of luck-giving galdrastafir, distinct from the protective and aggressive staves of the same grimoires, and it was carried on paper, wood, or metal when goods went to market.
