Khyber Knife
The khyber knife is the long, straight-backed belt knife of the frontier regions of Afghanistan and the border country of the Khyber Pass, with a wide spine, a single cutting edge and a simple handle of horn, bone or wood. It is worn at the belt and used for cutting, skinning and defence, and the name comes from the pass that links the Afghan highlands with the plains, a corridor of trade and conflict for centuries. Frontier bladesmiths forged the knives for daily work and for display, and the handles of older examples are often incised or decorated, showing the owner's pride in the weapon. Th
