Megingjörð
Megingjörð, the 'might-girdle', is the belt of the thunder god Thor, and the Prose Edda names it as one of his three great treasures together with the hammer Mjölnir and the iron gloves Járngreipr. When Thor girds the belt about his waist his already godlike strength is doubled, so that no giant can stand against him in the wrestling-matches and battle-tales of the Eddas. In the tale of Thor's journey to the giant Geirröðr, the giantess Gríðr lends the god a similar belt of might along with her staff, showing that such power-girdles were a fixed part of the mythic image of the thunder god.
