Naglfar
Naglfar, the 'nail-ship', is the great ship of the dead in Norse mythology, built from the untrimmed fingernails and toenails of the dead. The Prose Edda warns that the ship is always under construction, and that the dead should therefore be buried with clipped nails — every unclipped nail added to the awful ship. At Ragnarök Naglfar sails from the east carrying the forces of chaos across the waters: in the poem Völuspá the giant Hrym steers it, while Snorri places Loki at the helm, and the ship bears the host of frost giants toward the battlefield of Vígríðr.
