Nanteos Cup
The Nanteos Cup is a small, badly damaged wooden bowl, a late medieval mazer of wych elm, held for many years at Nanteos mansion near Aberystwyth in Ceredigion and kept today by the descendants of the Powell family. From at least the late nineteenth century it was treated as a healing cup: sick people borrowed it, leaving a valuable pledge, and drank from it in the hope of a cure, and its jagged edge was blamed on pilgrims who bit or scraped off pieces as relics.
