The Papyrus of Ani
The Papyrus of Ani is the finest surviving copy of the Egyptian Book of the Dead, a long illustrated roll commissioned for Ani, a scribe and accountant of divine offerings at Thebes, around 1250 BCE during the Nineteenth Dynasty. Its hieroglyphic spells, hymns and coloured vignettes were written by scribes and painted by artists so that Ani could pass the dangers of the underworld and reach the afterlife.
