Phulkari
Phulkari is the traditional embroidery of the Punjab, in which coarse, hand-spun cotton cloth called khaddar is covered with silk stitches worked from the back in a simple darn stitch to form flowers, diamonds and glowing fields of colour. The name means 'flower work', and the craft is credited to the women of the Sikh and Hindu farming communities of the region, where it has been practiced since about the 15th century.
