Pirot Kilim
The Pirot kilim is a handwoven wool rug of the town of Pirot in southern Serbia, built on a vertical loom with a cotton warp and a dense woollen weft that produces a flat, reversible fabric. Weavers worked in the so-called vratilnice technique, knotting and braiding the weft in long strips so that the patterns interlock, and the classical designs pair a central medallion with borders of zigzags, hooks and stylised flowers in red, black, white and green.
