Sankha Conch
The sankha is the conch shell blown as a trumpet in Hindu ritual, and the shell is one of the four emblems held by Vishnu, whose own conch, named Panchajanya, was taken by the god from a demon who lived in the sea. In temple worship the sankha is blown at the start of the ceremony, its long low note summoning the devotees and warding off evil, and a smaller shell is used in the daily arti to pour water over the deity.
