The signet ring of the prophet-king Solomon, engraved with the divine Name, by whose power he commanded the winds, the beasts, and the jinn in Jewish and Islamic tradition alike, told in the Quran, the midrash, and the Thousand and One Nights. The midrash adds the ordeal of its theft, when the jinn Sakhr stole the ring and ruled in Solomon's likeness for forty days until the king won it back and hurled the impostor into the sea.
