Székely Kapu
The Székely kapu is the carved wooden gateway of the Hungarian Székely villages of Transylvania, an oak structure built in two parts: a large wagon gate for carts and hay and a smaller door beside it for people on foot. The finest examples, carved from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, are covered with tulips, the tree of life, suns, rosettes and heraldic devices, and often bear inscriptions such as 'Isten hozott' ('God brought you') or the name and year of the householders.
