Tabla
The tabla is the pair of hand drums that accompanies most North Indian (Hindustani) classical music, consisting of a small wooden drum on the right called the dayan, tuned to the tonic, and a larger metal or clay drum on the left called the bayan, which produces the deep bass. The heads of both drums are built in layers of skin with a black patch of iron and flour paste in the centre, the syahi, which lets the player produce the intricate spoken syllables of tabla language, such as dha, dhin and te te. The drums are struck with the fingers and palm, and a master tabla player can mimic speech,
