Talos
Talos, the bronze automaton forged by Hephaestus and given to Minos to patrol the shores of Crete, a giant man of bronze with a single vein of ichor sealed by a nail at the ankle. In the Argonautica he hurls rocks at passing ships, turning the sea against the Argonauts, until Medea charms him and the plug is drawn, draining his life-fluid. The tale is one of the earliest machines in Greek myth, a guardian who cannot be wounded except at one secret point. Talos has been read both as an ancient robot and as a relic of Minoan bull imagery.
