The Temple Menorah
The seven-branched golden lampstand of the Tabernacle and later of the Jerusalem Temple, prescribed in the Book of Exodus as a beaten-gold work with almond-shaped cups, knobs, and blossoms, kept burning in the sanctuary before the veil. Carried by the Levites in the wilderness and set in the Temple built by Solomon, it was among the vessels plundered when the Temple fell; its image survives on the Arch of Titus in Rome, where Roman soldiers are shown bearing it off.
