Dejbjerg Wagon
The frame of a Celtic-style ceremonial wagon found in the Dejbjerg bog in West Jutland, Denmark, in 1881. Its richly ornamented bronze fittings, with scrolls and masks in a Mediterranean-influenced style, were long thought to be imports, and the wagon was probably the property of a chieftain, used in procession and then taken apart and sacrificed in the bog. Recent study suggests the fittings may be local Norse work following Celtic models. The wagon is exhibited in the National Museum of Denmark and is among the finest Iron Age vehicles found in Scandinavia.
