Hymir's Cauldron
The great cauldron of the giant Hymir, fetched by Thor and Týr so that the gods could brew ale enough for a feast. Hymiskviða says it was a mile deep; when Hymir refused to give it up, Thor took the kettle and carried it away. The same visit produced the god's famous fishing for the Midgard serpent Jörmungandr. The poem is one of the most comic of the Eddic tales: Thor eats a pair of oxen at the giant's table, breaks Hymir's cups by shattering them against a stone pillar, and finally lifts the great kettle from its post and walks off with it.
