The Roskilde Ships
Five Viking-age ships raised in 1962 from the mouth of Roskilde Fjord, where they had been scuttled in the 11th century to block the channel against raiders. The fleet holds a deep-sea cargo knarr, a Baltic trader, a small coastal boat, and two long warships, showing the whole range of Viking shipbuilding. They are displayed in the Viking Ship Museum at Roskilde, where the longship Skuldelev 2 has been rebuilt at full scale and sailed. The find is a key witness to how ships were built, sailed, and deliberately sunk in the late Viking age.
