Tulwar
The tulwar is the classic curved sabre of the Indian subcontinent, with a single cutting edge, a shallowly curved blade and a distinctive hilt capped by a disc pommel with a pierced tang button. The hilt, with its broad, flanged guard and long grip, gives the sword an unusually well-balanced feel, and tulwars were carried by Rajput, Maratha and Mughal horsemen for centuries, from the late medieval period through the wars of the 18th and 19th centuries. Blade steel was often made locally or imported from Persia, and many surviving tulwars preserve fine watered-steel blades with armourers' marks
