Ulu
The ulu is the broad-bladed knife of the Inuit and other Arctic peoples, a semicircular blade of slate or iron fitted with a short handle, used by the women of the household for every cutting task of the camp. With its curved edge and its grip held in the whole hand, the ulu lets pressure be applied with the arm, slicing through thick hide, frozen meat and fish with a rocking motion, and it is used for skinning game, trimming skins, cutting food and scraping hides for sewing.
