Valhöll, 'the hall of the slain', Odin's great hall where the Einherjar — warriors who died bravely in battle — fight each day and feast each night. Gylfaginning describes a hall of 540 doors, so vast that armies could pass through each. Its roof is said to be made of shields and spears, and Odin's wolves and ravens share the hall with the fallen. The warriors chosen by the valkyries from the battlefields were carried to the hall to train for the last battle at Ragnarök, when Odin would lead the Einherjar out against the wolf Fenrir and the hosts of chaos.
