Verbos Easter Palms
Tall bouquets of dried and dyed grasses, flowers, mosses, juniper and willow, bound with leaves and seeds onto a rod of hazel or willow, carried to church on Palm Sunday for consecration and kept afterwards in an honoured place at home. The verba tradition has been practised for at least seven generations in villages northwest of Vilnius and is documented in paintings and ethnographies since the mid-1800s, and the palms are still made for Palm Sunday, for Easter and for the St. Casimir's Fair in Vilnius each March.
