Víðarr's Shoe
Víðarr's shoe is the enormous foot-covering of Víðarr, the silent son of Odin, made from the pieces of leather that people are said to have cut from their own shoes at heel and toe and set aside for the god. The Prose Edda explains that every man who wishes to help the god should donate such scraps, and the collected leather forms a shoe strong enough to hold against Fenrir's jaws. At Ragnarök the silent Víðarr sets the shoe against the wolf's lower jaw, grips the upper jaw with his hands, and tears the wolf's mouth apart, avenging the death of his father Odin.
