Alpamysh (Alpamıs in Kazakh) is one of the most important Turkic epic heroes, shared across Kazakh, Uzbek, Karakalpak, and Altai traditions. The epic tells of the hero's miraculous birth to elderly parents after years of prayer, his childhood exploits, and his marriage to the beautiful Barchin after defeating rival suitors in contests. When Barchin's father moves the clan to the land of the Kalmyks, Alpamysh follows and wins her through heroic feats.
