Amma and the Cosmic Egg: The Dogon Creation
In the beginning, Amma, the supreme creator god of the Dogon people, existed alone. He created the universe from a cosmic egg called aduno tal, which contained all future matter and motion. Amma attempted to create the world but the first being, Ogo (also called Yurugu the Pale Fox), was born prematurely and without a twin, embodying incompleteness and disorder. He stole seeds and introduced chaos. To restore balance, Amma created the Nommo, twin amphibious fish-beings who represent water, speech, and cosmic order. One Nommo was sacrificed and dismembered, his body scattered across the univers
