The epic romance of Antarah ibn Shaddad, a 6th-century pre-Islamic Arab poet-warrior born a slave to an Ethiopian mother and Arab father in the tribe of Banu Abs. Despite his dark complexion (one of the 'Arab crows'), Antar rose through courage and poetry to win his freedom and the hand of his cousin Abla.
