Areop-Enap: The Spider Who Created the World
In Nauruan creation mythology, the primordial being was Areop-Enap, an ancient spider who existed alone in darkness on an endless sea. Searching for food, Areop-Enap found an enormous clam that swallowed him. Inside the darkness, he discovered two snails. He slept three days transferring his power to each snail, then sent the smaller snail to open the clam, leaving a phosphorescent trail. In the light, he found a white worm called Rigi.
