The Bhil tribe, one of India's largest Adivasi groups, traces its origin to the god Mahadev (Shiva). According to the myth, Mahadev was roaming the forest when he created a bow and arrow to teach humanity survival. The first Bhil was born from the sweat of Mahadev's brow. Another version tells that the goddess Parvati created the first Bhil woman from her combings, and Mahadev created the first Bhil man from his nail parings.
