Bieggolmmái: The Wind God's Shovels
Bieggolmmái (the Wind Man) is the god of wind who lives in a cave. He holds two shovels—one to release wind from his cave and one to put it back. According to the Nærøy manuscript, he had a club in his left hand to chase the wind back. He was crucial for reindeer herding because reindeer travel into headwinds to avoid mosquitoes. Sacrifices of horns were made at Piegg-oaivadz fells. Tiny birch-bark boats with offerings were set adrift as sacrifices.
