Er Sogotokh (The Lonely Man)
A foundational Yakut Olonkho epic about Er Sogotokh, the first human hero created by the supreme deity. Born alone in the Middle World, he must contend with the hostile Abaasy spirits from the Lower World who seek to destroy him. After achieving victory over the evil forces, he finds a wife from the Upper World and establishes the first human tribe. The epic explores themes of solitude, divine purpose, and the establishment of human society in a hostile cosmos. It contains some of the oldest layers of Yakut mythology, predating the northward migration of the Sakha people.
