Liongo Fumo was a legendary Swahili prince, warrior, and poet who lived on Pate Island sometime between the 9th and 13th centuries. He was a giant of a man, nearly invulnerable except for his navel, and a master archer whose bow no other man could draw. Despite being the rightful heir, his brother Mringwari usurped the throne, forcing Liongo into exile. Liongo became a heroic outlaw, fighting against injustice and defending the Swahili people from Oromo invaders.
