Glooscap and the Evil Frog Monster
In the days of the Mi'kmaq ancestors, a monstrous frog spirit had swallowed all the water in the world. Rivers dried up, lakes vanished, and people and animals were dying of thirst. The great being Glooscap took pity on his people. He tracked the enormous frog to its lair and engaged it in a titanic struggle. He struck the frog with such force that it coughed up all the water it had swallowed. Water gushed forth, refilling the rivers and lakes. Some of the animals present were so relieved and joyful that they leaped into the water and were transformed into fish and other aquatic creatures. The
