Göroglu: The Son of the Grave (Turkmen Version)
The Turkmen epic of Göroglu ('Son of the Grave') — also known as Köroğlu — is the national epic of Turkmenistan, recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage. Unlike the western versions, the Turkmen Göroglu was born miraculously in his mother's grave after she died, giving him his name. He was raised by his grandfather Jygalybek and aunt Gülendam, grew up with superhuman strength, and captured the magical winged horse Gyrat. With his forty jigits (warriors), Göroglu built the fortress of Chandybil and defended the Turkmen people against foreign oppressors. He married the peri (fairy)
