Heer Ranjha — The Tragic Lovers of Punjab
Heer, the beautiful daughter of a wealthy Jatt family in Jhang, fell deeply in love with Ranjha, a youngest son who tended cattle and played the flute. They met secretly for years until Heer's jealous uncle Kaido exposed them. Heer's family forcibly married her to another man. The heartbroken Ranjha became a wandering Jogi (ascetic), piercing his ears and renouncing worldly life. Traveling across Punjab, he eventually found Heer again. Her parents finally agreed to their union, but on the wedding day, Heer's uncle poisoned her. Ranjha, seeing her die, took the same poison and died beside her.
