Hinnon, the Thunder Spirit
The Huron believe in the Thunders, a group of powerful storm spirits who live in the sky and look like a cross between men and giant turkeys. Their leader is Hinnon, whom they call Grandfather. Hinnon and his warriors pursue and destroy the great horned serpents and other monsters that threaten the world. When lightning flashes, it is Hinnon throwing his thunderbolt; when thunder rolls, it is his voice. The Huron make offerings of tobacco to Hinnon before long journeys and during storms.
