How Fisher Went to the Skyland (The Big Dipper)
Long ago, the giant lynx Mishipeshu had imprisoned all the summer birds in a cave beneath the earth, plunging the world into endless winter. The animals held a council and decided to free the birds. Fisher, the swiftest of them, led a band of animals to the cave. While the others distracted Mishipeshu, Fisher slipped inside and released the birds. Summer returned, but the enraged Mishipeshu pursued Fisher across the sky. As Fisher ran, the spirits lifted him higher and higher into the heavens, where he was transformed into the constellation we call the Big Dipper (which the Ojibwe call Ojiig,
