How Rabbit Brought Fire to the People (Creek)
In this Muscogee Creek legend, the animals possessed fire but kept it hidden from humans. Rabbit, the trickster figure Chufi, decided to steal fire for the people. Rabbit crept to where the animals were guarding the fire and tricked them. He challenged them to a game and, while they were distracted, grabbed a burning ember. The animals chased Rabbit, but he was too quick and clever, passing the fire to the humans. This is why Rabbit is honored by the Creek people.
