Iktomi the Spider Trickster
Iktomi is the spider trickster of Lakota mythology, born fully grown with the body of a spider and the cunning of a man. He is known for his clever schemes and predictions, but his selfishness and mischievous nature often backfire. In one tale, Iktomi tried to keep a pot of fish soup for himself rather than share with a visitor, devising a race trick that ultimately failed. In another, Iktomi angered a boulder and was crushed, only to be freed by bats who were turned into stones. Despite his flaws, Iktomi is considered wise and his stories teach moral lessons about generosity and respect.
