Kashehotapalo (Choctaw)
Kashehotapalo is a creature from Choctaw mythology that is neither man nor beast. It has the legs and hooves of a deer but the body of a man. Its head and face are small and shriveled, and it is said that anyone who looks at it will be visited by evil. Kashehotapalo delights in frightening hunters who venture near the swamps it inhabits. It sneaks up behind them and lets out a loud call that sounds like a woman's scream before quickly fleeing into the darkness. Though it does not physically harm people, it takes great pleasure in their terror. Its name comes from 'kasheho' (woman) and 'tapalo'
