Khosrow and Shirin
The Persian prince Khosrow Parviz falls in love with the Armenian princess Shirin through a portrait painted by his friend Shapur. Their love is thwarted by a series of obstacles: Khosrow's forced marriage to the Byzantine princess Mariam for political alliance, his dalliance with Shekar in Isfahan, and the tragic love of the sculptor Farhad who carves Mount Behistun for Shirin's sake (and dies upon hearing false news of her death).
